Camino de Santiago

My project is born out of the experience of having done el Camino de Santiago. It emerges from the act of walking as well as from the sensations that one experiences during el Camino. The passing of time, the speed variations, the interruption of the everyday, the very idea that one steadily advances without the possibility of returning to the starting point, are some of the experiences that one has in el Camino. My project begins with all these themes.

Although el Camino provides many positive aspects that contribute to the whole experience, el Camino is also a very touristic place that draws large crowds. This is particularly significant in the hostels, which tend to be very disorganised, in poor conditions and where privacy is almost inexistent. In my project I attempt to create a place of rest that becomes an extension of the reflexion and meditative exercise that a pilgrimage supposes. It must be a place distinct from the noisy and crowded hostels that I experienced during my pilgrimage. A sort of crossroads architecture that adjusts to the necessities of the situation, where one can find the necessary peace required after all the physical and psychological effort involved in a pilgrimage.
